True story: On the morning of September 10, 2001, I boarded an American Airlines flight leaving from NYC to San Francisco. I had been doing some session work on a project for an artist out in New York City. I had arrived a few days before and was able to explore a bit before I had to work.
I was mesmerized by the city. The architecture, the culture, the food, and just the excitement of this place made it one of the most special places on earth. But ya know....my favorite part were always the people. They were strong, determined and proud. This place exemplified America.
To add to all of this excitement I felt like I was a kid who was getting to live out his dreams. I was in the studio recording with an artist on a major label in one of the greatest cities in the world. My brother and I had just signed our first record deal and the sky was the limit!
After I had gotten finished we had the choice to leave late on the 9th or on the 10th or 11th. We ended up leaving on the 10th. I remember boarding the flight anticipating the excitement of going back to SFO to finish our album. As the flight took off, I saw the towers over the New York skyline. Just breathtaking. I never would of thought in a million years it would have been the last.
When I returned to San Fran that night, I went to bed planning out a big day of writing and demoing the next day. I was actually woken up by the phone ringing early the next morning. It was my mom and she was telling me how thankful she was that I was home and that I needed to turn on the news. I turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane crash into the tower. Like many others I was horrified, confused, and speechless. That day changed everything. It changed you. It changed me. It left a permanent scar that can never be fully removed. The lives lost. The families destroyed. The brave first responders that sacrificed their safety so that they could help others. I thought that day would never end. It finally ended. But it was never forgotten.
20 years later we remember and we honor the lives lost on 9/11. We will never forget. #neverforget
